AAFS and partners rally for the Safe Zones Act (SB 35)

Arab American Family Services (AAFS) joined the Campaign for a Welcoming Illinois coalition outside of the Thompson Center in downtown Chicago on August 8 to advocate for the signing of the Safe Zones Act (SB 35) by Governor Bruce Rauner. The Safe Zones Act (SB 35) would ensure that policies are enforced by the Illinois Attorney General that would limit the power of U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement to enter and make arrests at public spaces such as libraries hospitals, courthouse, and schools.

The rally also addressed The Voices Act (SB 34) and the No Registry Program Act (SB 3488). AAFS has worked side by side with the Illinois Coalition of Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) this past year advocating for all three bills down in Springfield. All bills have all been passed out of both Illinois Senate and House of Representatives and are now all awaiting to be signed into law.

Let Governor Rauner know Illinois should remain a welcoming state! Tell him to support SB 3488, SB 34, and SB 35 and sign them into Illinois Law.
