AAFS wishes you a happy Juneteenth!

June 19th, 1865- also known as Juneteenth: a celebration of the end of over 200 years of slavery in the United States.

While this day is lauded as the mark of an effective end to slavery, it is sad to say that systematic oppression continues to persist under different names. We see modern slavery in police brutality, mass incarceration, hate speech, racism, sexism, Islamophobia, homophobia and more in minority communities everywhere.

On this day, we honor those who struggled before us and paved the way towards the continued mending of our communities. On this day, we reflect on our potential towards greater equality and justice for all people. On this day, we fight and serve as allies alongside those who have built this nation.

As an organization built upon empowerment, social justice, and education, AAFS is remembering this day by continuing to serve our community as we do year round.

How are YOU remembering this day?
