“I feel like this is my country now,”: Aneta’s Citizenship Story

“I feel like this is my country now,”: Aneta’s Citizenship Story

Aneta is now an American citizen.

Aneta came to AAFS because she wanted to apply for her citizenship. Her Green Card was expiring and she decided to finally become a U.S. citizen so she could travel freely between the U.S. and her origin country of Poland.

Aneta met with our Department of Justice Accredited Representative, Rima Najia, who explained to her what documents she needed, completed a legal review, and informed Aneta when she was qualified to apply. Rima explained the process for obtaining U.S. citizenship and prepared Aneta with a mock interview to give her an idea of what questions might be asked.

Aneta took the test, passed, and came back to AAFS to give Rima the great news. She told Rima that her preparation for the test really helped her feel confident during her citizenship interview. She recently shared about her experience with AAFS:

“Everyone at AAFS treated me like family. My experience with AAFS changed my life after being in the United States for 26 years. There’s always pressure about renewing your Green Card forms, and you always need help, and AAFS made things so much easier on me. I feel like this is my country now, and I am happy to be here.”
